Nasya Therapy

Nasya is a classical Panchakarma therapy in Ayurveda in which medicated oils, herbal juices, or powders are administered through the nasal route to eliminate aggravated Doshas from the head and neck region.

According to Ayurveda, “Nasa hi Shiraso Dwaram” – the nose is the gateway to the brain. Nasya therapy helps cleanse, nourish, and rejuvenate organs above the clavicle (Urdhva Jatrugata region).

This therapy improves brain function, respiratory health, sensory organs, hormonal balance, and emotional well-being.

Types of Nasya Therapy

Navana Nasya – Medicated Oil or Ghee

In this therapy, medicated oils or herbal ghee are instilled into the nostrils. It helps lubricate the nasal passages, remove toxins, and balance doshas in the head region. It is commonly used for sinusitis, headaches, allergies, and hair-related issues.

Avapeedana Nasya – Herbal Juice Extract

This type uses freshly extracted herbal juices that are dropped into the nostrils. It helps clear excess mucus and toxins from the nasal passages and is useful for severe sinus congestion, chronic cold, and nasal blockage.

Dhoomapana Nasya – Medicated Herbal Smoke

In this therapy, medicated herbal smoke is inhaled through the nose and released through the mouth. It helps clear respiratory passages, reduce mucus accumulation, and support the health of the nose and throat.

Pradhamana Nasya – Herbal Powder Insufflation

Fine herbal powders are blown into the nostrils using a special instrument. This method stimulates the nasal passages and helps expel accumulated toxins and Kapha from the head. It is mainly used in chronic sinus or neurological conditions.

Pratimarsha Nasya – Daily Low-Dose Oil Nasya

A gentle daily practice where 1–2 drops of medicated oil are applied in each nostril. It helps maintain nasal lubrication, improves immunity, and supports overall head and brain health.
